About Science of Rowing
Science of Rowing is a resource for coaches and rowers of all levels who want to learn practical takeaways from academic research on rowing training and performance.
Each month, rowing strength coaches Will Ruth, Blake Gourley, and Joe DeLeo read across dozens of academic journals for rowing research, deliver summaries and key takeaways from the most relevant articles, discuss experience and practice via audio roundtables, and provide supporting video and graphic content to help move the knowledge into application.
Members receive an email with the latest issue on the first Monday of each month. Each new issue includes:
- Three research reviews on rowing training, strength training, injuries, performance factors, and other topics you can put to use right away
- Video & graphic summaries and additional information to help put the knowledge into practice
- Podcast: roundtable discussions digging deeper into the takeaways and practical applications

Science of Rowing provides analysis of peer-reviewed academic journals focused on rowing performance and training. Our content is created around evidence-based science and our experiences as rowing coaches and rowing strength coaches. Our focus is on training, injury, sport science, not on athlete or coach profiles, interviews, news, regatta analysis, etc. Science of Rowing is also not a training platform with program distribution. Our goal is mobilization of resources into coach/athlete education and training practices.
Science of Rowing does not. Our mission is to provide the rowing community with high quality information so coaches and athletes of all levels can be better educated and informed in their coaching and training practices.
Will, Blake, and Joe do offer coaching individually, so please contact us separately or request information via our contact page.
You can cancel your monthly membership any time before the next renewal date. There are no refunds or pro-rating for monthly memberships. You can re-activate your subscription at any time.
Please contact us if you wish to cancel your annual membership. We will refund you based on the remaining months in your subscription at the monthly price ($15/mo) minus the payment processing fees.
We have no plans to cancel Science of Rowing, but should this occur, we will refund all annual members for the remaining time in your membership.
Yes. Memberful allows you to change between a monthly or annual subscription, with the new price beginning at the next billing period for the plan.
